This Greenville Doula got really sick this past week. I felt like I got completely knocked off my feet. If my mom has to come get my kids for two days, you know I’m really sick! Thank goodness I have her around to help me out during these times. Luckily my husband was able to take great care of me and nurse me back to health. There is a light at the end of this tunnel!
I am glad though, that I got sick during a little quiet spell. There is no way I could attend a birth while I’m sick. It’s not safe for the birth family! So what does your doula do during a time like this when they are too sick to attend your birth?
I have a back-up doula who would take my place if I was too sick to attend. You’ll find that most doulas will have some type of back-up plan. It’s definitely something you should discuss with her during your interview session. You might even want to know what happens if the back-up can’t make it? I know a handful of really great doulas who I would call if my back-up couldn’t make it.
A great doula will never leave you stranded. So don’t worry. I promise you’re in good hands.
