Prenatal or pregnancy massage focuses on the needs of the mother, which benefits the baby. Massage can relieve the discomforts associated with pregnancy. It increases the mother’s awareness to her areas of tension. This massage also helps increase the flow of nutrients to the placenta, aids in postural realignment, relieves minor edema and opens the chest for a deeper breath.
Peri-natal massage is given in the postpartum period. It helps bring the body into it’s pre-pregnancy alignment. Peri-natal massage can also aid in the process of the uterus returning to its normal size, releases shoulder, neck and arm tension from the care and feeding of an infant.
